Eravikulam National Park
Munnar has attracted visitors from around the world for centuries due to its natural brilliance. The famous Eravikulam National Park is the home and sanctuary of the Nilgiri Tahr. Situated in the Devikulam Taluk of Idukki district, people also gather to this park to view the special Neelakurinji flowers that blossom once every 12 years. Idukki wildlife sanctuary
Idukki district is among the most naturally gifted districts in Kerala and the Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary is a major example. It is located about 450–750 m above ocean level; the sanctuary is cradled by the Cheruthoni and Periyar Rivers. The beautiful lake adjacent to the sanctuary is perfect for romantic boat rides. Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary
It is established in 1973, the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is adjoining to the protected area network. It is rich in bio-diversity; the sanctuary is an integral part of the Nilgiri Environment Reserve. The management lays importance on scientific conservation with due consideration for the general lifestyle of the tribals and others who live in and around the forest area. The Sanctuary has a great population of elephants and has been declared a Project Elephant site. Elephants roam freely here and tigers are seeing occasionally as well. Various species of animals and birds also live here. The Reserve is also home to an abundance of birds, butterflies, and insects. A drive in the road to Muthanga and further offers chances to watch these roaming animals. Elephant rides can be arranged by the Forest Section.
