Let’s visit Valanthakadu !! Get acquainted with the village life.

After Vaikom, Valanthakkad Island is ready to make its way onto the tourist map through responsible tourism. Valanthakadu, also known as the Oxygen Parlor of Ernakulam District, is located near Nettoor in Kochi. The Island is opening the door to new opportunities in the tourism sector through the Village Life Experience Package implemented by the Responsible Tourism Mission under the State Tourism Department. The Village Life Experience Package benefits the entire island population by involving local people in the tourism development activities of an area.

A total of 45 families on the island have now become unit members of the Responsible Tourism Mission. In full collaboration with them, net weaving, jewelry box making, mat weaving, various types of fishing, wave fishing, coconut climbing, mussel weeding, food including local dishes and seafood, and boat trips focusing on mangroves will be prepared for the tourists.
The cost of a family to participate in Valanthakadu Village Experience Tourism is Rs. 2650 / -. Art events including Thiruvathirakali will be organized for the needy. Visiting hours are from 9.00 am to 3.30 pm. The uniqueness of this is that the amount of money that tourists spend here will reach the islanders themselves. Construction of floating facilitation center and walkway to houses will be completed soon in the area as part of infrastructure development.
